Kentucky American Indian Resource and Community Center, Inc
"Native People Building a Strong Native Community"
WHO WE ARE
The Kentucky American Indian Resource & Community Center, Inc. is a registered 501(c)
(3) non-profit and was organized in the state of Kentucky in June, 2005 for the purpose of providing a socio-economic infrastructure for American Indians living in and around our community. We also seek to build bridges of understanding between the Indian community and the broader community.
WHAT WE DO
Our organization provides support and resources for Native Americans families in the community. Often this involves being a resource in times of family emergencies, connecting available social services and health resources to those in need.
We also assist with travel or other needs back home on various reservations around the country.
Support is made available to both long term residents and to others who may be in our community for a shorter period of time.
These residents may include new residents, military personnel and their families stationed at Fort Knox or students at local colleges and universities. Our support program includes providing school supplies and uniforms for children at our "back to school" program in August, hosting annual events and gatherings to honor our area veterans and to promote sobriety and social well-being.
HOW WE DO IT
Throughout the year we host community oriented events, such as pot luck dinners and socials. For Native American students attending area schools, we serve as mentors, surrogate families and resources for their schools. The KAIRCC has also provided Native American speakers, performers, and artists to local schools and churches or programs at area museums.
KAIRCC, in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby Festival, hosted the first Kentucky Derby Festival Competition Pow Wow in 2007, bringing in 200
Native dancers and singers from 22 states.
We are supported in our endeavors by the generous support of local community members, Corporate sponsors: YUM! Brands, Kroger, Astra Zenica, and American Indian groups: Three Rivers Indian Council and United Tribes of North Dakota.
